Monday Style

Sadly weekends don’t last forever and sadly, we can’t be mingling with royalty and champion horses every day of the week. The best way to brighten up a Monday morning is looking your best!

I’m heading to Oxford this morning for a spot of shopping and sightseeing with my lovely friend Kira, this is what I’m wearing.

The skirt from Next (buy it here) is an absolute favourite, I always wear it with neutrals like white, grey or navy to stop it looking too OTT. Stripes work in the same way by toning down a bright or otherwise evening look and keeping it casual. This stripe top is from French Connection.

My bird necklace is a signature item of mine (i.e I wear it all the time!), bought from the Portobello Road Markets in London and loved dearly.

Tan flats from Next

What are you wearing today to banish the Monday blues?

Royal Ascot 2012

We were lucky enough to be invited along to the Royal Enclosure at Royal Ascot this weekend. New dress codes were introduced this year stating longer hemlines, hats not fascinators, nothing strapless and no midriffs showing (that was one rule I was happy to comply with!).

After seeing some beautiful summery shades at the Garden Party a few weeks earlier I’d decided to ditch the black dress I’d been planning on wearing (I wore it to the Trooping of the Colour instead). I found this lovely mint green broderie anglaise dress at Monsoon and knew it was the one!

Being we are in Britain in summer a cover-up was a must so I recycled my white Mango blazer (last seen at the Trooping of the Colour) and added a pale pink Accessorize flower. Pale pink Radley bag was also recycled from the Trooping of the Colour. My lovely mum, Rose, sent me the pink and black polka scarf to wear to show my support for Black Caviar. I wore the same black hat and black & white polka dot shoes seen at the Garden Party.

After the last race finished (I’d bet on Bernie the Bolt, who sadly did not live up to his name) I pulled out my Tipsy Feet ballet flats from Purse Angels’  which I picked up on the net after an agonising few hours at the Garden Party a few weeks ago. They come in a handy pouch which fits neatly into your handbag, then fold out into a carrier bag to carry your heels in home. Inspired!

No more heels for me!

What a great day and a great experience for us, congratulations Black Caviar!!

Not a ‘Shoe Girl’

I love Carrie Bradshaw with all my heart, but sadly I don’t share her passion for shoes. I love clothes, I love accessories (maybe sometimes a little too much!), but when it comes to my feet, less is more, simple is better. As a lover of clothes and fashion, it’s often assumed I’m equally passionate about shoes, sadly this is not the case, so I’ve put some thought into why. Firstly, I have big feet, size 7.5 UK, 9.5 in Australia (sometimes I’ve been known to fit a 10), I’m 5’6’ so proportionally my feet are huge and therefore not something I’m keen to drawn additional attention too. Secondly, quite possibly because I’m always trying to squeeze them into the wrong size, I find glamorous shoes painful. The more intricate and beautiful the design the more excruciating they are sure to be (case in point being the beautiful but oh so painful polka dot shoes I'm wearing in my profile picture). Heels make my back ache, straps rub, toes pinch. I look at beautiful shoes and I want to cry. So for me, it’s all about comfort and since being in the UK I’ve discovered the wonders of Clarks ( They're comfortable and cool. Check out my new metallic brogues, Carrie, you can have your Manolo Blahnik, I’m in LOVE.

Love them too? They're on sale at the moment at Clarks

So, are you a shoe girl?

Trooping of the Colour - Saturday 16th June

Another day, another Royal Event! This time it was the Trooping of the Colour an annual parade held at the Horses Guard to mark the birthday of the Queen. The dress code for this event was the most relaxed of the three royal events on our schedule and merely said ‘day dress, no denim’. Simple right?
I decided to go for a comfortable black dress, as there was a lot of sitting and walking, a white blazer to add a summery touch, mid-heel nude shoes for comfort, my beautiful new pale pink Radley bag and blue beads for a splash of colour. At the last minute as I was rushing out the door I threw on my favourite zara scarf as I suspected the weather may turn nasty. The scarf turned out to be an inspired moment as it was indeed freezing, windy and at times a little wet, but besides which I think it gave my monochrome outfit a lovely splash of colour.

Dress by Coast, you can buy similar here, white blazer by Mango, find similar here,  nude mid-heels by Tony Bianco, find similar here, pale pink bag by Radley, check out their sale here. Scarf by Zara, find something similar here. Happy shopping!

What do you think?

I'm back!

Welcome to my new blog, no more holiday talk, this time it’s all about style!
This new direction is my way of expressing my love of fashion, style and shopping.  I’m aiming to showcase beautiful things, the occasional bargain and unusual and personal gifts. Most importantly, I’m seeking style within a price range accessible to most, not an elite few!

What to wear?

What better way to kick of my style blog than by with a Garden Party special. It’s not every day I have tea at Buckingham Palace in the company of the Queen of England herself and style queen Kate! What an amazing experience!

I agonised for weeks over my outfit (yes I know, I need to get out more) we have lots of events coming up including Royal Ascot in a few weeks so I wanted to be able to recycle at least a few items. The dress code was fairly vague, just dress and hat. Here are the photos, judge for yourself if it was a success!

Pretty but oh so painful. Polka dot heels;,default,pd.html

Monsoon Claire dress in blue (,mon_1.2/1532686112) Pink envelope clutch by Dorothy Perkins   ( ) Black patent belt New Look, black blazer H&M.

Black simay hat;

What better accessory than my gorgeous husband ?

My favourite looks on the day were a beautiful but simple emerald green dress with a vibrant purple fascinator as well as some beautiful mocha coloured fascinators teamed with soft corals and florals. Very spring/summer and very stylish.
